Foto’s Blog: Finding treasure: PUP & PIRATES in Colombia

NEW Phodographer Mateo Cely in Bogota, Colombia, November 2010
The good news are that we did our first activity with DMW and people loved it!!!! It was something unbelievable!!!
Daniel (founder) and Mateo are with Recojo a network of young social entrepreneurs in Colombia. One of the most important projects that they have is a camp for low income kids and students from universities. In conjunction with Dog Meets World they not only wanted to take the pictures, but also to teach something to the kids. Thirty five low-income kids and 35 young people from universities were part of the activity.
Daniel reports “So we did a PIRATES DAY!!!!! Jejejejeje the idea was to teach them the importance to respect their body and the body of others (these kids are exposed to dangers like sexual abuse). So we wanted to help them by teaching self-respect and self-esteem.
The day started with a story about a pirate that hid an important treasure. And the challenge for all the participants (kids and young people) was to train them selves to be good pirates and be able to find the treasure. All day they were going to have tough challenges (that were the ones to teach them the importance of respect for their bodies) and at the end they found the treasure that was themselves and…. THEIR PICTURE!!!!!!”

Phodographers-to-be in Colombia, Aug. 2010
Daniel Buritica (shown front right!) is the founder and president of the Colombian youth program RECOJO a network of young social entrepreneurs in Colombia. One of the most important projects that they have is a camp for low income kids and students from universities. It’s call BAKONGO and the goal is to create young changemakers and teach values in a fun way.
Daniel was recently in DC for a conference and heard about Dog Meets World. He liked the innovation of the project and thought it would be very useful, not only for the kids of Bakongo, but also for the other communities in which his network is working. Daniel emailed this picture saying “I introduced DOG MEETS WORLD and Foto to my staff and they were fascinated!!!! Now we are all committed to the project.” Welcome collaborators from Colombia!

Phodographer John Carr between Popayan and San Agustin, Colombia, Oct 2009
John Carr of London is backpacking through South America. He photographed Lianne when their bus stopped for a break. Both “she and her parents were delighted by the picture. The only doubt they had was how much it would cost them!” Sharing a photo is the gift of the Dog Meets World experience.
