NEW Phodographer Mateo Cely in Bogota, Colombia, November 2010

The good news are that we did our first activity with DMW and people loved it!!!! It was something unbelievable!!!

Daniel (founder) and Mateo are with Recojo a network of young social entrepreneurs in Colombia. One of the most important projects that they have is a camp for low income kids and students from universities. In conjunction with Dog Meets World they not only wanted to take the pictures, but also to teach something to the kids. Thirty five low-income kids and 35 young people from universities were part of the activity.

Daniel reports “So we did a PIRATES DAY!!!!! Jejejejeje the idea was to teach them the importance to respect their body and the body of others (these kids are exposed to dangers like sexual abuse). So we wanted to help them by teaching self-respect and self-esteem.

The day started with a story about a pirate that hid an important treasure. And the challenge for all the participants (kids and young people) was to train them selves to be good pirates and be able to find the treasure. All day they were going to have tough challenges (that were the ones to teach them the importance of respect for their bodies) and at the end they found the treasure that was themselves and…. THEIR PICTURE!!!!!!”

Phodographer Amir Pelleg in Kumasi, Ghana

On this Thanksgiving week, DMW honors all phoDOGraphers who have taken their time to see and recognize so many children around the world. In 37 countries, this humble program continues to spread diplomacy worldwide and be a bridge of peace from Niger to Panama, Ghana to India, and now from Jamaica to Tibet. Starting with a single “click” – truly the power of one photograph transcends much and can bring real affirmation and a smile. Foto the dog is a symbol of peace and love and helps fetch all the photos.

Amir Pelleg was working as a volunteer consultant in remote cocoa farming communities. He said Dog Meets World was such “an exciting and rewarding experience.” These are kids from that community, thrilled to have their first photograph. Thanks Amir and all phoDOGraphers for bringing the Dog Meets World citizen photo diplomacy project to over 5000 kids and families.

Phodographer Patrick Firouzian in Nepal, October 2010

Patrick travels extensively for Global Roots as a member of the Board of Directors and as long time volunteer. Patrick has incorporated Dog Meets Word on several of his recent trips. His photos always capture the joy of the world’s children.

Global Roots stated mission…GR improves the lives of orphans and disadvantaged children with support of local humanitarians from all over the world. We feel the best way to bring about positive change is to offer assistance to the humanitarians who have already taken the first step to help the children in their local community. They are our heroes and it is through them that Global Roots works to protect the world’s most valuable asset, its children.

NEW Phodographer Coleen McIntyre in Chennai, India, Oct. 2010

American Coleen McInyre (seen upper left) teaches 3rd grade at the American International School in Chennai, India. She and fellow teachers volunteer at the small House of Hope orphanage every Wednesday. Many children are tsunami orphans, and all have been rescued from desperate circumstances. Their lives have been transformed and they have been given a real hope for the future. They are fed, cared for and educated.

Coleen took brightly colored papers, markers, and glitter so they could create frames for their new Dog Meets World pictures. Coleen said, “The kids, ages 6-18, all loved the project. As the first picture printed I said “Yellow, Red, Blue… Magic!” to explain that it needed to go through the printer a few times. One of the youngest boy, Wung, who seemed to be the most fascinated by the printer sat so patiently waiting for his picture to be printed. I think for about 10 or so prints he sat there and watched saying “Yellow, Red, Blue…. Magic!”… sooo cute! The cook at the house and Nisha the woman who runs the place also joined in. They were so very excited. I think the cook was the most excited. It was a wonderful evening full of smiles and fun!” Read more on Coleen’s blog.
