Daily Foto: Printing Photos in the Dominican Republic

Phodographer Marissa Neuman in Monte Cristi, Dominican Republic, Jan 2010

Marissa was one of the leaders on an Alternate Winter Break with students sponsored by Hillel at the University of Maryland in
College Park. The group is gathered to watch their first photos being printed on-the-spot. While exploring the town of Monte Cristi she said “we also started to use the “Foto Dog,” which is a new photo diplomacy program called Dog Meets World. The goal of the program is provide individual photos of kids in developing countries. Therefore, we were able to instantly print out pictures of the orphans today we took on our cameras. The pictures brought smiles to all of the kids faces!”
All college groups can easily add Dog Meets World to their agendas while traveling in developing countries!
Daily Foto: Seeing all the colors in Costa Rica!

Phodographers Kathryn Rouillard and Nisha Grimes in Las Vegas de Rio Canas, Costa Rica, March 2010

Peace Corps Volunteer Kathryn wrote “Thank you Dog Meets World for giving purpose to my Peace Corps service. I commit to spending the remainder of my service not only seeing red, blue, and yellow, but trying to make purple, green, and orange. Through DMW, I not only distributed photographs. I also brought a service to the people of Cuatro Calles and Las Vegas de Río Cañas. I showed them that I see them.”
She noted that Dog Meets World opened her eyes to the poverty and lack of opportunity that exists in Ortega- in Cuatro Calles and Las Vegas de Río Cañas, which are two barrios that pertain to Ortega. Many families struggle with the daily task of collecting water early in the morning for cooking, cleaning, bathing, drinking, and other activities that we often take for granted.
Daily Foto: A WOW moment in Cuba

Phodographer Wayne Novak in Cuba, March 2010
International businessman, David Axson when introduced to Dog Meets World stated “Great idea – we take pictures of our kids for granted and fail to understand that for many people this is their Wow moment!” Cuba is definitely a destination where first photos were a big hit, a real WOW moment for these children.
Daily Foto: Off the beaten safari track with the Maasai in Tanzania

NEW Phodographer Gloria Upchurch in Olmoti, Tanzania June 2010

Gloria is a professional documentary photographer (and phoDOGrapher too!) who founded A Global Connection, a charity focusing on the needs of women and children. She learned of Dog Meets World via PhotoPhilanthropy. Gloria said Foto, the dog, “lights up the surroundings” and delighted all kids and adults alike!
The Olmoti district was set aside for the Maasai people by the government. Since it is off the beaten path of safari travelers the children rarely see tourists. Gloria said “It was amazing to see the faces of the mothers as they watched the image of themselves, and this case her baby develop before their eyes. This was her first ever photograph.” The mother is holding the small photograph of in her right hand of herself with Foto and her baby.
Gloria speaks eloquently of the need for all of us that travel to truly see the “invisible” along the way. Stopping to share pictures and acknowledgment is a great way to start! Gloria gave out over 200 photos with Foto! Donate now.
Daily Foto: Afrikaner Chef gets First Picture!

Phodographer Carolyn Lane in Somerset, South Africa, Feb. 2009
I, Carolyn Lane, founder of Dog Meets World was in the Cape Town and on the suggestion of my fellow local assistants took pictures of the kitchen staff at the very lovely Lord Charles Hotel (4 star). This Afrikaans speaking chef was cajoled into to having his picture taken. He removed his hair net and apron and I posed him against the beautiful foliage in the outdoor dining area. When I returned moments later from the lobby with his printed picture, his eyes turned red, tears welled, his wiped his eyes and hugged me warmly…….his first picture in his life.
How often to we exchange pleasantries and seek help from hotel staff? My astonishment at this gentleman, despite his regular job and nice uniform, had never had his own picture. I suggest we take more time to notice and appreciate those that cater to our needs. So all those traveling, attending World Cup events and more, find time to interact and give back. Dog Meets World makes it simple to share a basic photo!
