The Daily Foto: Spontaneous Acts of Kindness in Honor of Sept. 11

Phodographer Kelly Crane in San Ramone Costa Rica, July 2009
While on a church mission trip, Kelly recounts “these refugee boys spontaneously picked up shovels to help us dig small drainage ditches. After a short while, one of the crew members came over and said that the three boys had dug too far in the wrong direction and asked us to fill in their ditch. I knew immediately from the boys’ expression of defeat that they didn’t understand why we were covering up their hard work. The boys looked so disappointed. I thought to myself, “enough of this- where is that Dog Meets World equipment?? They were bewildered by the small printer I pulled out of the box. Amy Speckman (shown here) helped me set up and take photos. We took the first pictures of these three boys and they were thrilled The children were overjoyed with seeing themselves and being able to keep their first photo!”
